Latvian rides his way to Guiness history

Latvian Bruno Å ulcs has made the history books. In late August, Å ulcs took his place in the Guinness Book of World Records for a spectacular feat in high-altitude cycling. The extreme mountain biker climbed the 7,546 meter Mt. Muztagata in Xinjiang, China, and rode his bike down from the summit to mark the highest place a person has ever been with a bicycle. Latvians currently hold a number of Guinness World Records.

For example, Spilva made the largest rasols salad (a popular side dish consisting mostly of sour cream) in history in 2002. Vīnakalns hold the record as the northernmost vineyard on earth. Even more impressive, in 2007 Latvian race car driver Kristīne Štāla became the first and only woman in the world who to win one of the formula series. Latvia also plans to set two more Guinness World Records in October: "the most people to participate in a 100 meter relay run over a 24 hour period," and "the longest folk dance."
